Aurora Grid Secures €48M to Roll Out Community Battery Storage Across Southern Europe

MADRID, Spain - September 16, 2026 - Aurora Grid has closed a €48 million Series B round to deploy 320 MWh of shared battery storage for energy communities in Spain, Portugal and Italy over the next 24 months.

The company operates neighbourhood-scale batteries that let cooperatives store surplus solar generation during the day and draw from it in the evening peak. Aurora Grid currently runs 41 sites serving roughly 9,400 households.

Where the capital goes

Around 70% of the round is allocated to hardware deployment, with the remainder funding the dispatch software that decides, every five minutes, whether a battery should charge, discharge or offer capacity to the grid operator.

"A community battery is not a technical curiosity any more, it is the cheapest way to make a neighbourhood's own solar useful after sunset," said Marta Iglesias, co-founder of Aurora Grid.

Deployment plan

The first 60 sites are scheduled for Andalusia and the Lisbon metropolitan area, followed by Lombardy in the second half of 2027. Each installation is co-owned by the participating cooperative, which keeps the revenue from grid services.
